Are you aware of the risk factors to your teeth and gums associated with poor oral hygiene? Severe dental damage can occur if your teeth are not always kept clean. Thus, it is essential to make sure you are actively caring for your teeth and gums by using cleaning tools on a daily basis. This includes brushing your teeth every day and cleaning between your teeth daily with an interdental cleaner such as dental floss.

Optimum oral health depends on optimal oral hygiene treatments. This includes brushing and flossing every day. Whereas brushing is highly effective for keeping your smile clean, it cannot reach between teeth. This is where floss comes in. However, if you struggle using traditional threaded floss, you may want to switch to an easier to operate interdental cleaner such as a water flosser, which uses a steady beam of water to rinse out debris between teeth. No matter which product you use, always make sure it is safe and effective and will not fail to work appropriately.

Ideally, you should be flossing 2 to 3 minutes every day. Always use soft, gentle strokes and never go too fast as to miss any tooth. Be sure to floss between every tooth and behind the teeth in your furthest row back, and hit every side of all teeth. Furthermore, make sure you’re never using the same strand more than once if you decide to use dental thread. In addition, avoid using the same section of each strand more than once as this can cause contamination. To accomplish this, use a strand that is roughly 18 “ in length, and remember you can move up and down the strand as necessary for each tooth.
